Kosovo President Hashim Thaci resigned from his leadership post following the confirmation of a war crimes indictment by the Hague Specialized Prosecutor's Office.

The indictment also includes other members of the KLA General Staff.
The Special Chambers and the Specialized Prosecutor's Office in The Hague (Netherlands) have been set up to investigate alleged crimes against members of the Kosovo Liberation Army that demanded the secession of Kosovo from the former Yugoslavia. The alleged crimes relate to the period 1998-2000 and are related to the killing of Serbs, Albanians, national minorities and political opponents.
