Kanye West spoke about his life and presidential plans during a podcasting interview "Joe Rogan Experience".
In the nearly three-hour episode, which aired on Spotify on Saturday, the 43-year-old rapper said his new Christian faith and current presidential candidacy were inspired by God.
"It was something that God put in my heart since 2015. A few days before the MTV Awards, a kind of lighting came to me in the shower. "When I first thought about it, I just started laughing to myself and all this joy came through my whole body, through my soul."
He admitted that famous friends and colleagues either thought he was joking or tried to persuade him not to start his campaign.
Kanye said he would tell anyone who said no "by then, he would have become a billionaire".
"Not that this is a reason why anyone should be president," he explained quickly. "At the time, I owed $ 50 million and I knew I could pay it back."
West said he believes his creativity and personality makes him a strong contender compared to President Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden.
"There could not be a better time to put a visionary in the captain's chair," he said.
West said if he does not win, he is open to running for governor of California.
"If it is in God's plan to be governor, then very well, but my calling is to be the leader of the free world," he said.
The rapper plans to run again in 2024 and he could possibly do so under another political party.
"If it does not happen now, I am 100% sure I will win in 2024. Most likely I would be a Democrat."
