Instagram is launching National Bullying Prevention Month by introducing new features to curb bullying and bullying on social media.
On Tuesday, October 6, which also coincides with Instagram’s 10th anniversary, the app announced two new features that will limit negative interaction in comments.
"Bullying is a challenge that many people face, especially young people who are already dealing with the additional pressures brought by COVID-19," Instagram said on his blog.
The first feature, which Instagram has tested in recent days, will automatically hide comments that are similar to other comments that have been "reported". If users want to see these comments, they can click "Vieë Hidden Comments".
The second feature will send new warning messages to users who post comments that are often reported as offensive. This option is being tested in several languages.
"Since the introduction of the warning messages less than a year ago, Instagram has seen a decline in negative interactions both in the comments and in the captions of the photos," Instagram spokespersons said.
Any comments that violate the Instagram community guidelines will continue to be automatically removed from the app.
Instagram is also celebrating its 10th anniversary with an "Easter Egg" that allows users to change the app's basic icon:
Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, celebrated the 10th birthday of the app and in a statement said that "he is proud of the place where Instagram is today", but still thinks "where it will go".
