As soon as Barbados announced plans last Tuesday to remove the British monarch as its head of state, many on social media offered what they thought would be a suitable replacement - Robyn Rihanna Fenty.
Followers are calling for the singer to replace Queen Elizabeth II, as president of Barbados amid the island's bid to become a Republic in 2021.
Barbados, which achieved independence from the United Kingdom in 1966, said it aimed to "take the next logical step towards full sovereignty and become a Republic at a time when it celebrates the 55th anniversary of Independence".
Although Barbados gained independence from its colonial ruler decades ago, the country remained associated with the monarchy, with Queen Elizabeth II as practical but not political ruler.
A short speech by Prime Minister Mia Mottley and read by Governor-General Sandra Mason said:
"Barbadians want a president of Barbados. This is the ultimate declaration of faith in who we are and in what we are capable of achieving. ”
Following the announcements, a fan said:
"It's time for Barbados to remove Queen Elizabeth as President, in favor of Queen Robyn Rihanna."
Another said:
"At last! "Everyone knows that the real sovereign of Barbados is Rihanna."
Another follower called the replacement of Queen Elizabeth II an "important step in Rihanna's title as Empress of God in Barbados."
"I know I'm not from Barbados, so my opinion does not matter, but I would like to nominate Rihanna as the country's president," someone wrote.
"Replace her with Rihanna, you cowards!"
"Barbados must make Rihanna president!"
Some others seem a little upset, thinking that if she becomes president, there will be no more time for a new album:
"If Rihanna becomes president, we should say goodbye to the idea of ??a new album."
"Rihanna will become president sooner than releasing a new song."
The singer is often praised by her country, so all this is not surprising.
- In 2017, the road on which she grew up was named Rihanna Drive.
- In 2018, she was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Barbados, a responsibility dedicated to promoting tourism, education and investment in the country.
- This year it provided PPE equipment and financial support for the island country at the beginning of the pandemic.
Following the fact that it will have its president next year, Barbados, like many other former territories in the British Empire, is expected to become a republic within the Commonwealth, joining the former Caribbean colonies of Trinidad and Tobago, Dominica and Guyana.
