Meeting the beautician: Signs that your nails need rest

Should we let our nails "breathe"? You may wonder about this when you notice that their surface is yellowed by the use of nail polish or you have other problems after meetings with the beautician.

"Nails get oxygen and nutrients from the blood, not from the air," dermatologist and nail expert Dana Stern told Allure. However, nails need a little rest, which means you should avoid constant meetings with the beautician for gel manicure / tips. There are some signs to keep in mind.

According to Stern, there are several key signs that nails need rest: rough white patches on the nail surface, nail thinning, breakage, discoloration, and dry cuticles.

If the file is used forcefully, a lot of pressure is applied to the surface of the nail, causing superficial onychocytes - or nail cells - to move, causing them to thin.

To avoid this, it is advisable for the beautician not to grind the nails too hard. You should also not remove ordinary nail polish by force, as this will damage the surface.
