Epidemiologist and public health expert, who also holds the position of Director of Health and Innovation in Frankfurt, Germany, Erjon Dasho, in an interview with A2 News says that there is a lack of testing in the country.
"Judging by the number of deaths, which is the most reliable indicator, because every death is reported, taking into account what is today accepted as the mortality rate in relation to infection, globally, about 0.5 deaths per 1000 infections , I calculated that for us to have an average number of deaths, of 4 or 5 as we have today, the number of people infected two or three weeks ago should have been at least 1000 per day.
He continues:
"So when we report and diagnose 100-150 people a day, we show that we manage to catch only 10% of infected cases in the population. Of course, a number of these cases in the world are not caught. It can be asymptomatic cases, or cases with mild symptoms, but anyway we capture only 10% of cases and insist meaninglessly that the number of tests is sufficient, when all standards, all parameters show the opposite "For me, this shows a big shortcoming in our health system."
He says that the mantra of treating the epidemic is: "test, track, treat" and that the country lacks the first step:
"We are the last country in Europe for the number of tests: 15,000 tests per 1 million inhabitants and this makes it more difficult to implement other trinomial links, tracking and treatment."
The doctor says he has problems with both tracking and treatment. According to him, the tracing is done with 19th century methods, not contemporary and family doctors are not sufficiently protected from the virus.
He suggests that in Albania 2000-5000 tests be performed per day.
