Valentino's Haute Couture Autumn 2020 collection set a new standard in what might be called the new fashion show at the time of the pandemic.
As the Covid-19 pandemic has forced some famous fashion houses to cancel shows, Valentino's artistic director Pierpaolo Piccioli presented a live show, in front of a small audience at Cinecittà Studios, Rome, the largest film production studio in Europe.
What caught everyone's attention is definitely the way Valentino presented the Haute Couture collection. In collaboration with UK photographer Nick Knight, and to the sound of FKA Twigs music, Piccioli presented the show titled "Of Grace and Light", which amazed the audience and the people who were watching it live on YouTube.
Playing with the concept of light, the show brought a surreal environment, with models "hanging" in the air. All the outfits of the collection created voluminous silhouettes.
The designer said (Harper's Bazaar) that the collection was an "extreme response" to the reality caused by the pandemic. "I did not want to feel the limitations. Couture is made for emotions, dreams," he said.
