Dan Okopny, a system administrator from California, has gone viral with his post about TikTok. After studying the engineering platform, he says TikTok is nothing more than a data collection service, well disguised as a social network. The app reportedly tracks phone hardware and software devices and can also see which other apps the user has installed. This is confirmed by Anonymous, who say that TikTok is collecting data on children and adolescents to see their development in the market and politics, in order to create better methodologies to keep them "behind" for 5 -10 next years.
An even bigger problem is the lack of control of this application by children. Developers show how older men have direct contact with children on this platform.
"I have personally seen (and reported) many suspicious cases," writes Dan Okopny. Men 40-50 years old doing a duet (a kind of option that allows you to dance / sing with a song in the background along with someone else) with 8-10 year old girls with sex songs. These videos are published. TikTok also has the messaging option, so the risk is even greater. On the other hand, videos that are constantly shown, although humorous, are often sexual and not suitable for a child.
Beijing-based TikTok (owned by ByteDance) has denied the allegations, saying it operates separately from ByteDance and stresses that data centers are located entirely outside China. A company spokesman told CNN that "national security concerns are unfounded."
