Pressure for Prince Endrew to speak to FBI investigators is growing, especially after the arrest of Ghislaine Maxwell, a friend of Prince Andrew, and at the same time accused of sexual trafficking and concealment of evidence.
Ghislaine Maxwell is the youngest daughter of British tycoon Robert Maxwell, also known for his business tricks. After his father's death in 1991, Ghislaine moved to the United States and became the right-hand man of Jeffrey Epstein, accused and convicted of trafficking minors, mining prostitution, and sexual abuse. Epstein hanged himself in a cell in August 2019 after being arrested.
At a press conference in New York (via The Guardian), where prosecutors provided details of the charges Maxwell will face, they asked the prince to testify.
Prince Andrew has not denied his long friendship with Ghislaine Maxwell and the fact that he was the one who introduced her to Epstein. Recall that an American woman claimed in early December that Jeffrey Epstein forced her to have sex with Prince Andrew when she was 17 years old.
"It's not a sex story, it's a trafficking story, it's an abuse story and a story about the behavior of the kingdom's boys," Virginia Roberts Giuffre told a BBC documentary.
In a recent interview with the BBC, Prince Andrew denied Giuffre's allegations, saying he did not remember meeting him. "If you're a man, having sex is a good thing," he said. "It's very difficult to forget something positive and I don't remember anything."
He also defended relations with Epstein. His interview was considered a disaster, and in the following days, Andrew was forced to resign from his royal duties.
Buckingham Palace said the interview with GIUFFRE an d the statements to the press: "categorically deny charges of York's Duke had sex or any other kind with Virginia Roberts, 'reads the statement released late Monday. "Any allegation to the contrary is false and unfounded."
After the scandal, Prince Andrew resigned his royal duties. Kingdom expert Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight in November that it was Queen Elizabeth II who made the decision for Andrew. According to Nicholl, the queen was aware that Prince Andrew was causing great damage to the monarchy and had to withdraw.
