Actor Daniel Radcliffe reacted to posts by Harry Potter writer JK Rowling, which were described as transphobic.
In an essay posted on The Trevor Project (via Page Six), Radcliffe wrote that he felt compelled to speak out after the controversy after his acting career began as Harry Potter.
"Transgender women are women," he wrote in the essay.
"Any statement that erases the identity and dignity of transgender people goes beyond the advice of health care professionals who have more knowledge on the subject than I do," he said, referring to Rowling as her first name.
The actor said that the media "will broadcast his reaction as a clash between him and Rowling" but stressed that this is not true and this is not the important thing now.
He also addressed the fans of "Harry Potter" saying that "he is very sorry for the pain caused to them by the comments".
