US, Iran launch new attacks amid stalled ceasefire talks

The US and Iran have exchanged new missile and drone attacks, hitting tankers, military bases and targets in the Gulf region.
US forces announced they had neutralized a tanker heading towards Iran and repelled Iranian attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain, while Iran claimed to have struck US targets in response.
The latest clashes indicate an escalation of the situation and come at a time when ceasefire negotiations are at a standstill and risk failing.
Zelensky asks Trump to send missiles after Russian attacks on Ukraine

Zelensky has asked Trump to send defensive missiles after Russian attacks with dozens of missiles and hundreds of drones hit several Ukrainian cities, causing at least 18 deaths and many injuries.
Ukrainian forces managed to shoot down about half of the rockets, but dozens hit civilian targets, collapsing buildings and leaving people trapped under the rubble.
Ukraine warns that without additional air defense assistance, the attacks will continue, while the US has so far not responded to the request for missiles.
EU accused of creating ICE-style immigration enforcement system

The European Union has been accused of creating a new deportation system for undocumented immigrants, which critics say resembles harsh law enforcement practices in the United States.
The new law provides for home searches, detentions of up to 30 months, the creation of centers outside the EU, and stronger measures against those who refuse to leave.
While officials say this will improve migration management and increase returns, critics warn of the risk of abuses, violence and human rights violations.
Archaeologists uncover centuries of history beneath Notre-Dame square

Archaeologists are uncovering thousands of years of history beneath the square of Notre-Dame Cathedral, where they are digging up to 4 meters deep as part of a project to turn the area into a greener, cooler space by 2028.
Beneath the surface, remains from the medieval period, earlier structures and an ancient Roman quarter have been found, along with hundreds of objects such as ceramic vessels, goblets and a fourth-century coin bearing the image of the Roman emperor Constantine the Great.
Work will continue to uncover even earlier traces, while the project aims to create a more heat-resistant square with around 160 trees, without damaging the historical heritage hidden beneath.
