The policeman who caused George Floyd's death has been arrested by police in Minneapolis and is charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter. If convicted, Derek Michael Chauvin could face up to 25 years in prison on the first charge and 10 years on the second.
Meanwhile, violent protests in the country continue. Protesters, who previously looted and damaged shops on the streets, have set fire to various places in the city. President Trump, through a Twitter post, said that "these thugs are insulting George Floyd's memory and I can't allow it." He threatened to set up an army to help Governor Tim Walz, and if no control is established, a fire will be opened.
According to the police report, Chauvin made Floyd's breathing difficult by placing his knee for 8 minutes and 46 seconds in total, while during the last 2 minutes and 53 seconds, Floyd did not react.
