For this year, April 1 (Lie Day) is canceled! The world is living with the panic caused by the pandemic, so one more tension from the April 1 lies would not help anyone.
Even taking into account people's behavior on "Lie Day", countries ranging from Thailand to India have taken drastic measures! They have warned people not to make a joke about Covid-19 because otherwise they could end up in jail!
The rapid spread of untrue rumors would endanger the lives of many people, so today no one is making a fake.
On the other hand, Google, known for its annual April 1 logos, broke the tradition this year because of the coronavirus pandemic, which has so far claimed the lives of about 40,000 people worldwide.
Thai authorities have made it clear that those joking about April 1 about coronavirus will be sentenced to up to 5 years in prison!
In India, too, authorities said it would be unfair and illegal to do so if fake news were spread only on April 1.
The Ministry of Health warned people in the slogan "Korona is no joke" not to fabricate any virus-related story.
People now more than ever look to the internet to get information about the virus, and many countries fear that today's jokes can cause great misunderstanding.
Others write on Twitter that Lie Day has been canceled because "no one can fabricate something more incredible than what's happening to the world right now."
