The ten Albanian doctors and twenty nurses, who left for Italy yesterday (March 28th) to help fight Covid-19, have received international attention.
Reuters, New York Times, Euronews, Balkan Insight, Il Messagerio, Kathimerini, Greek daily newspaper and National Post, Canadian daily newspaper, write that "Albania, one of Europe's poorest countries, sent a team of doctors and nurses to Italy to help coronavirus pandemic. "
The articles read that "Italy has helped Albania [throughout history] when it has faced several crises, such as the fall of communism or the anarchy of 1997."
The team was welcomed by Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio, who thanked the Albanian people for solidarity through a Facebook video .
?I know that some here in Albania will find it strange that 30 doctors and nurses of our small army of white shirts are leaving today for the line of fire in Italy. I also know that 30 doctors and nurses do not overthrow the ratio of the invisible enemy's deadly force and the white t-shirts fighting it across the sea. But I also know that our home has been here ever since Italy, our Italian brothers and sisters, rescued and welcomed us and adopted us into their homes when Albania burned with indescribable pain, ?the prime minister said.
A team of 30 years, part of the Albanian medical staff, may seem really small, but given the spread of Covid-19 in Italy, any help is worth it. As said a former NASA astronaut, "When you see from space, Earth has no limits."
