US officials announced yesterday that testing of a vaccine against Covid-19, developed by the company Moderna and The National Institutes of Health, began. Jennifer Haller was the first volunteer to receive the vaccine.
In an interview with CNN, she said she made the decision to volunteer because she felt it was useless. Jennifer noted that the vaccine does not contain coronavirus samples, which means it is not infected. In an interview for MSNBC, Heller said he had to constantly record the temperature, record the symptoms he might have, side effects.
Currently it has no side effects. Heller is under the supervision of doctors and her health will be monitored for 14 months.
Researchers want to find out if the vaccine has serious side effects and if not, go ahead with larger-scale testing to understand the efficacy. It takes 12-18 months to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a new vaccine.
