
After being charged with rape and sexual assault, Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was found guilty by Manhattan courts and sentenced today to 23 years in prison. He was expected to be sentenced to five to 29 years in prison.
The sentence was set today, two and a half weeks after Weinstein was found guilty of first-degree sexual offenses and third-degree rape. The producer pleaded not guilty to five charges against him. After pleading guilty, Weinstein underwent heart surgery at Bellevue Hospital. He was later transferred to Rikers Island Prison.
Over 100 women publicly accused Weinstein of sexual harassment ranging from unwanted touching to rape. Six of them testified against him in court.
Miriam Haley, an assistant at Project Runway, testified that Weinstein performed oral sex with her without her consent in 2006. Actress Jessica Mann testified that she and Weinstein experienced an abusive relationship and that he raped her in 2013. Actress Annabella Sciorra also said money judges that he raped in 1993. Three other women spoke before the jury and told stories similar to the protagonist Weinstein.
