Covid-19 may not be as dangerous as thought. Children and adults have shown consistency in healing from the virus.
"Children and adults have advanced tremendously well in healing," said Dr. Jeremy Faust, emergency physician at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.
"It is of the utmost importance not to waste resources on young and healthy people, but to focus on the people who really need it, whose health is out of control."
The death rate jumped to 3.4% from the 2% initially reported by the World Health Organization, but experts expect the rate to drop as health care improves. However the mortality rate varies from region to region.
Specialized medical help is sought from individuals who have severe symptoms, but specialists do not exclude the possibility that the number of people infected with coronavirus may be higher. Simply because of mild symptoms, these people do not seek help because the body fights the virus itself.
Experts say Covid-19 may be more deadly than seasonal influenza, but far less deadly than similar diseases like Ebola, SARS, MERS with mortality rates of 50%, 10% and 35%, respectively.
Dr. William Schaffner, professor of infectious diseases at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, said:
"There is an epidemic of coronavirus anxiety. I think people take a deep breath and plan what to do when the coronavirus is present in their community. You need to create a distance from people until the situation is normalized. If you follow the basic rules, there's nothing to worry about. ?
