According to a study of over 44,000 people by Chinese health authorities, women are less likely to die of coronavirus than men. The study, which analyzed the impact on people affected by Covid-19, found that 2.8% of infected men die compared to 1.7% of women.
When it comes to disease mortality, age plays an important role. So does sex. Data show that 0.2% of children and adolescents die of Covid-19 compared to 15% of 80-year-olds and over.
But why?
Experts believe that women's lifestyles deserve merit. Women are less likely to get infections of this nature believed to be due to their lower tendency to smoke. In China, where the data were collected, this hypothesis is strongly supported, as 52% of men smoke compared to 3% of women. According to Tabaco Atlas statistics, 50% of men and 7% of women smoke in Albania.
Experts also mention biological reasons. Paul Hunter, a professor at the University of East Anglia, told the BBC: "Women have very different immune systems than men. Women are more likely to suffer from autoimmune diseases and have been shown to produce better antibodies against the flu. "
As far as children are concerned, it is believed that parents keep the little ones away from the sick, especially in such situations.
