Kobe Bryant used helicopters almost daily, but he and his wife never flew together.
"He and Vanessa had agreed that they would never fly the helicopter together," a source told People.
Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven other people, lost their lives as a result of Sunday's accident. Bryant leaves behind his wife, Vanessa, 37, and three daughters, Natalia, 17, Bianka, 3, and Capri, who was born in June 2019.
The 41-year-old former NBA basketball player and daughter were heading to a basketball game.
The same source told People that Bryant was traveling alone with pilot Ara Zobayan, who also lost his life in the accident.

Bryant began traveling by helicopter to spend more time with family and less time in traffic.
"Getting stuck in traffic and missing something important at school," he said in 2018. "I had to find a way to train and focus on sports, but without neglecting my family."
?Everything started there. I could go to training and come back in 15 minutes, ?he added.
In an interview published in November, Bryant said that of all his achievements, children were the greatest achievement.
?I'm very proud to be a dad; it's my biggest achievement, ?he said. ?I have learned so much, but I believe the deepest feeling is the unconditional, unconditional love you have for your children. I have been blessed with this feeling four times and it is the most powerful thing in the world. ?
