The coronavirus that broke out in Wuhan, China, has so far claimed more than 100 lives and infected more than 4,500 in China alone.
Authorities in Hubei, the province where the virus broke out, say 1300 more cases have been confirmed. In total, 2700 people have been infected in the region. Most are still in hospital when 125 of them are in critical condition.
Infected have been identified in every province and region of China, with the exception of Tibet, which has closed all tourist attractions and forced a two-week isolation of all tourists entering the country.
Chinese officials have banned wildlife trade, believed to originate from a market that sold mammals such as nightshades or cats that were the cause of the SARS virus, which broke out in 2003. The market in Wuhan is closed to be disinfected.
The first cases were identified in mid-December. Since then, the infected have seized thousands and hospitals no longer have the capacity and staff to care for them. Two new hospitals are being built on the outskirts of Wuhan, expected to be operational within a week.
The virus spreads more rapidly than it could believe and can pass from person to person without any symptoms.
The coronavirus is not as deadly as the SARS that killed 700 people around the world, but it spreads more rapidly either because it is more contagious, or because it is traveling more to China now than it did in 2003.
