The city of Wuhan, in China, will build a hospital in six days to treat infected patients or suspected of being infected by coronavirus.
The virus spread to Wuhan with about 11 million inhabitants. Area hospitals are overcrowded with people worried about health, while pharmacies have begun to empty.
Coronavirus has infected 1287 people, of whom 41 have died. The virus is not yet classified as an "international emergency" because the number of infected outside China is low. There are three infected in France, one in Australia, three in Singapore, five in Thailand, two in Japan, Vietnam and South Korea, one in Taiwan and one in Nepal. The first infected person in the US was confirmed Friday
According to Chinese state media, the new hospital will have 1,000 beds.
Videos posted online show excavators digging into the 25,000-square-foot area.
?Practically, it is a quarantine hospital where people with infectious diseases will be sent. It is therefore equipped with the tools necessary for the safety and protection of others, ?says Joan Kaufman, a world health lecturer at Harvard Medical School.
How is it possible for China to build a hospital in six days?
?China is known for its quick implementation of projects of monumental importance; says Yanxhong Huang, a member of the Council on International Relations.
?This authoritarian state relies on immediate and unconditional mobilization. The Chinese give up the bureaucratic nature and financial constraints to effectively mobilize all resources. ?
Engineers from all over the country gathered to complete the hospital on time.
As for medical equipment, the hospital may receive them from other hospitals or order them from factories.
