Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duchess and Duchess of Sussex, announced yesterday that they would step down from their royal duties for a financially independent life. Their statement was certainly not surprising to the public, and members of the Palace were equally surprised.
In a statement released hours after the couple posted, Buckingham Palace said the situation was "complicated". "Discussions with the Duchess and Duchess of Sussex are still at an early stage," the statement read.
"We understand their desire for a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work on."
As you may have read , an Instagram post said that the decision to break away from the kingdom had been made "after months of reflection and discussion", while Buckingham Palace's statement somewhat contradicted the couple's.
Sources for CNN say Harry and Meghan did not consult with other members of the royal family about their decision. Everyone is said to be disappointed and hurt by the news.
