When "Parasite" first premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, among many of Hollywood's big names and celebrities, it was hardly thought to be a triumph. But here's South Korean director Bong Joon-ho's thriller-comedy film grabbed the most important award, the Palme d'Or.
Following its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 21, 2019, "Parasite" became the first Korean film to win the Palme d'Or, as well as the first film to announce a winner by unanimous vote, after "Blue is the Warmest Color". in 2013.
Apart from awards at the festival and staggering profits in South Korea, "Parasite" became South Korea's first film to win a Golden Globe. At yesterday 's awards ceremony , "Parasite" was announced the best foreign language film.

Bong Joon-ho is the brain behind the film's success. The director, who is catching everyone's attention, was also nominated for "Best Director" and "Best Screenplay". He wrote the story of the film and was a co-screenwriter with Han Jin-won.
The film is the South Korean nominee to be represented at the Oscars and so far is one of the top contenders to be nominated in the category on January 13th.
