Shay Mitchell and her boyfriend, Matte Babel, have decided to call their newborn daughter Atlas.
The actress, 32, spoke to Vogue about the challenges of being a first-time mom and recounted how she and her partner chose the baby's name.
?A close friend of ours was listing us names she had thought of giving to her daughter, who had brought her to life a year and a half ago. When Atlas said, I saw Matte, he saw me and we said, 'Oh my God,' "said Shay, who has dedicated a whole YouTube channel to traveling around the world.
?It's the perfect name. From that day on, we knew we would call it Atlas, ?she continues. "People were asking us if we had chosen the name, but we were hiding it. We apologize to all the people we have lied to. "
The actress described the weeks after the birth of her daughter and said being a mother has fulfilled and forgiven her.
?I'm more present. I see it every day, ?she told Vogue. ?It reflects on the time that has elapsed and you have to slow down. I wonder how much this tranquility is enjoying me. "
Also, Shay talked about the criticism he received when he went to Drake's party in October shortly after he brought the girl to life. "I'm worried about the fact that people judge so freely, the more they don't know the facts and are protected by the anonymity of the keyboard," she said.
"The girl was a few weeks old and when Matte and I decided to go out that night for only an hour and a half, I was amazed at how people reacted aggressively and guessed the worst things for us - especially for me," Shay said.
"There are problems that need to be solved in the world, and I would like people not to come to extreme conclusions about things that are not their own. Matte and I chose to ignore them because we couldn't be happier than that, ?she added. "I'm going to do what I think is best for my family."
Atlas is the first child for Shay and Matte, who have been known through the company and have been friends since January 2017. In January, Shay revealed she had undergone a spontaneous abortion in 2018.
The actress spent 33 hours in the hospital before bringing Atlas to life.
?This is without a doubt the most intense experience of my life. Matte and I are parents, I can't believe it. I thought pregnancy was difficult, ?she said in a video. "Now I understand that we have just started."
