Kujtim Gjuzi, a Conservative MP, supports Silvana Bushati, the party's vice presidents, in the face of Linda Reit, the country's most famous transgender woman, and pastor Akil Panos. If conservative and transgender words in the same sentence caused you stress, you are right. This "360 degree" work by Arthur Zheji evoked every point of disgust I had in my body, but I believe that was the intention.
The panel was supposed to talk about Albanians, they are beautiful and modern and within minutes, Gjuzi was thrown into the most transphobic attack my ears have heard against Linda Rei. Referring to male pronouns repeatedly, calling her transformation scandalous, suggesting her study by anthropologists, she says she has no chance of having children or getting roses from a man, as if that is the purpose of life.
The jealousy is aggressive in what he says and, of course, what he says is full of hatred and rage against someone who does nothing. Quite the opposite, it is Juzi who holds the torch to Linda and brings to the studio sculptures to demonstrate the divine connection between man and woman. The ignorance in his words is irrefutable in the text, one must prove himself.
As a conservative, he is supposed to preserve some values, but what these values are is not clear. No one is violating his family, country tradition, history, customs. They are all intact. A transgender woman or anyone in the LGBTQ community has existed since the beginning of humanity and now has regained the opportunity and fought for equal rights. It seeks to close its eyes to this part of the population, because it cannot chew on its own, and cannot eat its brains, rather than threaten its existence in some way.
In addition to the devastating rhetoric of the MP (I can't fully comprehend that this man represents Albanians in Parliament), Linda must also confront Silvana Bushati who thinks the fact that she is 195 cm, super original and the fact that she can be a very good mother tomorrow, it makes one better. No, superior to Linda. It is fascinating to see how this woman who sells herself for schooling and wandering fails to understand something very simple: some women do not want to become mothers and do not consider children the divine mission in life.
It seems impossible, but the situation degenerates from minute to minute. When accused of being false because she needed sex change surgery, Linda Rei asks Bushat to remove the eyelashes, as she too has something false in her body. To encourage him, he removes himself first, but the opponent does not respond. At this moment he comes out of the delirium and wonders what the hell he is seeing and why there is such a thing.
This circus, orchestrated by Artur Zheji, is so unnecessary and harmful to the viewer. It should be borne in mind that when confronting two opposing parties who share opposing views, neither will change its mind. It is simply impossible, scientifically proven. Suppose you believe in God. Whatever argument the other party may give you, you will not stop believing all of a sudden and split up amicably. Same thing in this case. Whatever argument Linda or Juice make, neither side will give up on its own. But if you need to be convinced that transgender people deserve equal rights and should be treated with the same respect and humility as everyone else, we're sorry, but you're on the wrong side of history.
The biggest problem is that this confrontation is not based on arguments, but on feelings and banalities, ridicule and ridicule. If you want to demonstrate the opposite of an intellectual conversation, watch this video. Moreover, Zheji just has fun and laughs. Tek-tuk explains any reference to Linda. Although the panel is completely off topic and off the rails, he is pleased because such circuses are ignored (as I am doing now, unfortunately) and absorb attention. The Albanian public has a special affection for the scandalous things.
In all my naiveté, I believe that the media should be more aware of the power it carries, of the message it conveys to the population, of the time it is spent without giving them something in return. And this debate only spreads hatred for a community that sees nothing but its work in peace.
