The 2018 Nobel Prize in Physics was given to Canadian Donna Strickland along with Frenchman Gérard Mourou and American Arthir Ashkin for their innovative invention in the field of laser physics.
Donna, the first woman to be awarded in 55 years, was acclaimed for her method of generating optical impulses with high intensity ultrasound. "We need physical women because they can. I am honored to be one of these women, "she said at a press conference held in Stockholm.
Speaking of the fact that she is the third woman to win the prize, she added, "She hopes that science will start to move faster."
Prior to Donna Strickland, the Nobel Prize in Physics was won by Maria Goeppert-Mayer in 1963, which developed a mathematical model for the atomic nucleus structure.
Earlier, of course, the first prize was awarded to Marie Curie and Spouse Pierre for joint research on radiation phenomena.
