Donald Trump said he is ready for a "second phase" of sanctions against Russia, while the US Treasury Secretary warned of secondary tariffs on countries that buy Russian oil, aiming to drive Moscow's economy towards collapse.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized Trump's meeting with Putin in Alaska, saying it gave the Russian president the publicity he sought, while reiterating that he cannot meet with him in Moscow while Ukraine is under bombardment.

Greece has announced a 1.6 billion euro package of tax cuts and financial incentives to boost birth rates and curb population decline.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis called the problem a "national threat", warning that the country risks becoming the oldest in Europe by 2050.

The measures include major fiscal relief for families with children and will come into effect in 2026.

France and Spain surpassed Germany for the highest number of asylum requests in the first half of 2025, with over 77 thousand applications each, while Germany recorded 70 thousand.

The decline in applications from Syrians following the fall of the Assad regime and the significant increase in applications from Venezuelans have changed the dynamics of migration to the EU.

In total, the EU, Norway and Switzerland received 399 thousand applications, 23% fewer than in 2024.
