Ukraine celebrated Independence Day on Sunday, commemorating its declaration of independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. President Volodymyr Zelensky declared that the country will continue to fight to defend its territory.

In a speech, he said that Kiev was pushing back Russian aggression every day to guarantee peace in Ukraine.

“Today Ukraine celebrates Independence Day. In the midst of war, under attacks and sirens. But most importantly, not alone. Every day, we are pushing this war back to where it came from, to Russian skies and soil,” he said.

At least 64 Palestinians have been killed in the past 24 hours by Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip. Medical sources report that at least 16 people were killed on Sunday alone, including seven who were seeking humanitarian aid.

According to witnesses and hospital officials, Israeli soldiers opened fire on crowds traveling through a military zone in southern Gaza toward a humanitarian aid distribution point near Khan Younis, managed by the Israeli-backed American contractor, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF).

Israel bombs Yemeni capital after Houthi bomb attack

Israel launched airstrikes on Yemen's capital, Sana'a, on Sunday, days after Houthi rebels launched a missile toward Israel, which the military described as the first bomb dropped since 2023.

According to the Houthi-controlled Health Ministry, at least six people were killed and 86 others were injured in several areas of Sana'a.

The Israeli military said it hit two power plants in Asar and Hizaz, which it said were supplying power to military activities, as well as a military facility near the presidential palace. Residents reported explosions near a closed military academy and the presidential palace itself.

Bulgaria stops dozens of smuggled rubber boats at the border with Turkey

Since the beginning of the year, nearly 70 smuggled rubber dinghies have been seized at the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing in Bulgaria.

For the second year in a row, at the request of the United Kingdom, Bulgarian customs officers are stopping dinghies at the border with Turkey, which are used for the illegal trafficking of migrants across the English Channel.

In the last two years, nearly 200 rubber boats have been seized hidden in trucks. The most recent case occurred a few days ago, when customs officers discovered 20 rubber boats hidden in a Turkish truck that was declared to be carrying legitimate goods.
