A recent study has found that some men are more likely to cheat on their partners, and occupation appears to play a key role.
According to the Institute for Family Studies in the US, men who hold high positions such as CEOs, surgeons or doctors, as well as those who are unemployed, are more likely to be unfaithful in relationships.
Researcher Wendy Wang analyzed data from the General Survey and found that 18% of men in high-ranking positions had cheated on their partners. Unemployed men, especially those aged 25–54, also showed similar trends, with about 1 in 5 men having had an extramarital affair.
Experts explain that a lack of professional stability or economic dependence on a partner can negatively affect men's self-esteem, making them more emotionally insecure and, consequently, more likely to seek attention outside the relationship.
What about women?
While male infidelity is often talked about, the study shows that women are not immune to this phenomenon either. According to the same survey, 14% of women admit to having cheated on their partners.
However, when it comes to profession, the differences between the sexes are obvious. Women working in low-status professions (21%) are more likely to cheat than those in higher positions (9%), the opposite of what happens with men.
Signs that may indicate that your partner is cheating on you
Psychologists have identified several warning signs that can help detect infidelity:
Hides your phone when you're together, or takes it with you everywhere
He never posts pictures of you on social media.
Refuses to reveal location or does not share any information about his plans
Experts explain that it is not about excessive control or jealousy, but about basic communication and transparency, which should be natural in a healthy relationship.
