
Renowned Albanian academic Rexhep Qosja has passed away at the age of 89, leaving behind a rich legacy in the fields of literature, critical thought and Albanian public life. The news of his death was confirmed by his family through an official announcement published on social media.
According to the announcement, Qosja passed away on April 23, 2026 and was given his last farewell in a simple ceremony, in the presence of only the closest family members. The family has also made it clear that, in respect of the deceased's wishes, no reception ceremony will be organized and he will not participate in any institutional activities or organizations.
Relatives have asked for understanding from the public and the media, emphasizing the need for privacy in this moment of mourning.
"We ask that our privacy be respected and that we be allowed to mourn in peace," the announcement made public by his nephew reads, among other things.
Rexhep Qosja was born on June 25, 1936 in Vuthaj and during his life he was distinguished as one of the most important figures of the country. He was a literary historian, literary critic, writer and publicist, making a special contribution to the development of Albanian literary and cultural thought.
