For skin to look healthy, nourished, and have that softness you feel every time you touch it, a moisturizer is absolutely essential, at least that's what dermatologists say. Using a facial moisturizer daily is one of the most important steps in your skin care routine, as it helps maintain elasticity, hydration, and its protective barrier.

However, even though moisturizer is a product that almost everyone uses, many people make small mistakes in how they apply it. These mistakes can reduce the product's effectiveness or, in some cases, cause irritation and other skin problems.

To avoid these unwanted consequences, here are some of the most common mistakes you should avoid when using moisturizer.

1. You don't wash your hands before applying the cream.

Hands are one of the main sources of bacteria and germs, especially during the day when we touch different surfaces. If you apply cream to your face without washing your hands first, you risk transferring bacteria directly to your skin.

For this reason, it is always important to wash your hands before using any facial product. If you prefer not to apply the cream with your hands, you can also use a special brush to spread the cream.

2. Apply a lot of cream

It is often thought that the more cream you use, the better your skin will be hydrated. In reality, using too much cream can clog pores and create a heavy feeling on the skin.

A small amount is usually enough for the entire face. The secret is to spread it well and massage it lightly into the skin so that the product is gradually absorbed.

3. Apply the cream to dry skin.

One of the most common mistakes is applying moisturizer to completely dry skin. Dermatologists recommend applying moisturizer to slightly damp skin, as this helps the product absorb better. The ideal time to apply it is immediately after washing your face, showering, or using a serum.

4. You don't use moisturizer if you have oily skin

One of the most common misconceptions is that oily skin doesn't need hydration. In fact, it's the opposite. When skin isn't properly hydrated, it can produce even more oil to compensate for the lack of hydration.

Even if you have acne or very oily skin, using a moisturizer is important. The secret is to choose a product that is lightweight, oil-free, and won't clog pores.
