Lizzo revealed that she was in her 30s when she lost her virginity, fulfilling a promise she made to herself many years ago.
In an interview on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast , she revealed that she had decided that she would not have sex until she won a Grammy Award.
"When I was younger, I promised myself I wouldn't have sex until I won a Grammy," she said, surprising the moderators.
The singer, now 37, won her first Grammy in 2020, where she took home three awards in one night, including best pop solo performance for the song "Truth Hurts."
However, Lizzo didn't fulfill her promise that night, but shortly after. Before this moment, Lizzo admitted that she had been lying about this part of her life for a long time.
"I've been lying for a long time. I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders now," she said.
She also shared a moment from her college days, when her friends asked her if she was still a virgin and she, out of embarrassment, answered no. The singer even said that she had her first kiss at the age of 21.
According to her, this delay was also related to her religious upbringing. As a teenager, she had made a pact with the young men of the church to wait until marriage.
“I was just scared. And, to be honest, no one wanted to kiss me,” the singer said. When it first happened, the experience was nothing like she had imagined.
"It was very bad. I was very upset, because it was a moment that I expected differently," she added.
Since 2021, Lizzo has been in a relationship with comedian Myke Wright, whom she met years ago during a television project, but at the time there was no spark between them.
