Syrian army attacks Kurdish-held towns, a "betrayal" that destroys prospects of deal

The Syrian army has taken control of large swathes of the country's north, driving Kurdish forces out of territory over which they had de facto autonomy for more than a decade.
Explanation: De facto autonomy means that a territory or group is self-governing in practice, even though it does not have this status officially or legally recognized by the central state.
The Kurdish-led Democratic Forces fighters considered this a betrayal and accused the Syrian government of violating the agreement.
Internationals have called for a reduction in tensions and a ceasefire.

The project is considered revolutionary because it could significantly accelerate the progress of scientific knowledge about these mysterious objects in the universe.
