Clashes in Belgrade between police and protesting students
Police clashed on Saturday with anti-government protesters in the Serbian capital, Belgrade, who demanded early parliamentary elections after nearly eight months of protests.
Students have been the main force behind the nationwide anti-corruption protests, following the tragic roof collapse of a renovated train station in Novi Sad in November 2024, which claimed the lives of 16 people.
Many Serbs blame the event on government corruption and neglect of state infrastructure projects, which has led to repeated and massive protests.
The crowd chanted “We want elections!” as it filled Slavija Square and several surrounding blocks.

Of these, 249 were shot down and 226 were lost, likely due to air system jamming.
Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ihnat told the Associated Press that it was the “most massive air strike” on the country, taking into account both drones and various types of missiles.
The attack also included regions in western Ukraine, far from the front line.
