Tehran targets Bahrain and Kuwait after new US attacks, testing ceasefire

News in a few minutes: What's happening in the world

Following new US attacks on Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz, Iran struck US military bases in Bahrain and Kuwait with missiles and drones, significantly increasing tensions in the region.

Kuwait announced that its air defense systems were coping with the attacks, while alarm sirens were activated in Bahrain.

The escalation of the conflict has also affected maritime transport, with several oil and gas tankers changing course for security reasons.

Ukraine has used drones to strike dozens of tankers from Russia's so-called "shadow fleet" that were supplying fuel to Crimea, while Russia continued its missile attacks on Kiev and Odessa, injuring at least 12 people.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky again called for the country's membership in NATO and said that the Ukrainian military would significantly strengthen the alliance.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump stated that he believes that both Ukraine and Russia want to end the war and that an agreement may be closer than thought.

Trump reiterates call for US to take over Greenland as he arrives at NATO summit

Donald Trump reiterated his demand for the US to take control of Greenland and warned he could withdraw US troops from Europe, criticising NATO allies over defence spending and their stance on war with Iran.

He said that disputes over Greenland, as well as European policies on immigration and energy, have damaged relations with the alliance.

Meanwhile, European countries are trying to strengthen military cooperation and reduce dependence on the US ahead of the NATO summit.

Italian village to impose fines of up to €200 for tourists with bare chests or in swimsuits

Varenna, a picturesque village near Lake Como, will fine tourists between 50 and 200 euros if they walk the streets bare-chested or in swimwear, as these are only allowed on the beach or during lake cruises.

Authorities have also limited tourist groups to a maximum of 25 people and banned the use of loudspeakers by guides, to preserve the tranquility and character of the village.

Similar measures against mass tourism have been taken in other Italian cities, such as Sorrento and Portofino.
