
After many efforts and discussions, the representatives of the European Union countries agreed on the approval of the visa liberalization proposal for Kosovo, and it is expected that the decision will enter into force on January 1, 2024.
This date comes as a request from Spain (one of the five EU countries that does not yet recognize Kosovo's independence). Initially, the Czech Republic, which leads the EU's six-month presidency, requested that visa liberalization for Kosovo take effect on December 1, 2023, but the date was postponed.
The approval of this proposal will be on the agenda at the meeting of the ambassadors of the EU member countries and this meeting will be held on Wednesday. According to diplomats, the passage of the proposal is a positive step, as there is now a concrete date for the entry into force of visa liberalization.
