North Korea reports a mysterious 'epidemic' following the Covid

North Korea has sent medical teams and epidemiology experts to a province facing an outbreak of an intestinal disease, state media reported on Sunday.

At least 800 families suffering from what North Korea has called an "acute enteric epidemic" have so far received assistance in Hwanghae province. Enteric refers to the gastrointestinal tract and South Korean officials say it could be cholera or typhoid.

On Sunday, the state-run KCNA news agency detailed efforts to prevent the disease, including quarantines, intensive scanning for all residents and special treatment and monitoring of children and the elderly.

Disinfection work is being carried out, including sewage and other waste, to ensure the safety of drinking and domestic water, the report said.

Meanwhile, more than 4.6 million have shown symptoms of Covid since Covid infections were first admitted in mid-May.
