How many times have we heard that when applying blush, we should smile to place it on the cheekbones of our face? Endless.
And yet, according to makeup artist Kiki G., this advice not only doesn't help us, but can actually be aesthetically harmful.
In a video from her Instagram and TikTok series "Por Why Tho?", Kiki explains that smiling while applying blush isn't the best idea after all.
When we smile, our cheeks lift/tense. However, when we relax our face, the area where we applied the blush “falls,” leading to a lower positioning that makes the face look more tired or “pulled” down.
And not only that. Smiling creates wrinkles (completely natural, of course), but if we put blush on them, we emphasize them even more, even when our face is in a relaxed position.
The solution? We should apply the blush without making any facial expressions. Using our fingers, we find the most prominent point on the cheekbone and apply it there gently, for a pleasant and natural result.
