But what are e-girls?
Since the mid-20th century, each generation has had its own version of what is now known as an e-girl. In the 80's, a special style with wide and torn blouses and the predominance of black color and leather material, as well as a deliberately pale skin, became known as "goth". Then, in the 2000s, the so-called "emo" girls were in vogue, having a hairstyle, usually with a side parting and often a more serious look than usual.
While now, it is the era of "e-girl" who paints the face, experiments with appearance and listens to K-pop.
Such girls love to experiment and look fearless and thanks to TikTok, today they have become the biggest subculture on the internet.
With style icons like Brittany Xavier and Dua Lipa, the recent two-color hair style trend seems to have influenced a lot more people to try it out of the “e-girl” frame, but it seems that everyone can do whatever they feel.
How do you distinguish an "e-girl"?
The typical girl of this type is more of an idea, an "aesthetic" than a person.
As its predecessor "e" implies, "e-girl" is "almost all the time online", probably playing or spending all her time on TikTok.
Former "emo" girls also spend a lot of time on Tumblr.
An e-girl's hair does not last long in the same color and is often pink, purple, green and any color other than natural colors.
