Given that Kanye West did not announce his candidacy for president of the United States of America until July, the race has been a tough battle from the start. But now, he appears to be facing a sudden setback on the ballot, which is likely to launch an investigation into electoral fraud.
The rapper secured petitions to put his name on the ballots of 10 states, but so far has managed to secure only one seat in Oklahoma. Kanye managed to meet the candidacy deadlines in Illinois and New Jersey, but both states have raised questions because it turns out that Kanye's petitions are invalid.
An Illinois official said 100 signatures were not valid. A similar situation was reported in New Jersey, where Kanye filed 1,327 firms, but the investigation found that hundreds of firms were suspicious. Some of them lacked surnames, while others belonged to people who had not registered to vote or did not live in New Jersey.
In addition, a New York Times investigation found that there are a number of Republican activists helping Kanye West get on the ballot, including Mark Jacoby, whose company Let the Voters Decide has gathered firms in Ohio, West Virginia. and Arkansas. While working for the Republican Party of California in 2008, Jacoby was charged with voter fraud and found guilty.
Kanye's team has until August 21 to dismiss the allegations regarding the worthless firms. So far, no lawsuits have been filed against his campaign, but it is likely to happen.
