Ashton Kutcher is giving more details about his experience with vasculitis , a rare condition that the actor said has affected his ability to hear, see and walk.
The condition has also made red carpet appearances more difficult, Kutcher explained on an episode of the "Chicks in the Office" podcast. While promoting his upcoming film with Reese Witherspoon, "Your Place or Mine," Kutcher was criticized for looking awkward and awkward — which the actor attributed to the effects of vasculitis.
"I can't hear very well; I'm hard of hearing in one ear and I can hear in the other," he said during the podcast. "I didn't know who was calling my name, but I know a lot of people were yelling: Reese! Ashton! Over here! Look this way!"
This isn't the first time Kutcher has spoken out about his condition. In a trailer for the Paramount+ docuseries "The Checkup With Dr. David Agus," Kutcher reflects on his fears. He explains how at first he "wasn't able to walk or see".
There are many types of vasculitis, and the condition can be short-term or chronic, with symptoms ranging from mild to life-threatening. Symptoms may include fever, headache, fatigue, weight loss and pain. As Kutcher experienced, the effects of the condition can affect the ears (including dizziness and sudden hearing loss), temporary or permanent blindness, and weakness in the hands and feet.
What causes the condition is not well understood, although genetic factors, immune system disorders and drug reactions are among the factors that may contribute to the disease.
