South Korean author Han Kang has won the Nobel Prize for Literature, "for her intensely poetic prose, which confronts historical trauma and shows the fragility of human life." In her works, Kang brings a close connection between body, soul, people who are alive and those who have passed away.
Kang, 53, began her career with a few poems in a magazine in South Korea before debuting in 1995 with a collection of short stories. Further, she started writing prose works, the most popular of which is "The Vegetarian".
This was her first work translated into English. The novel also won the Man Booker International Prize in 2016 and describes the efforts of a young woman who lives a life "like a plant" after suffering cruel and barbaric nightmares.
