Jeff Bezos is being sued by a former domestic worker who claims she experienced racial discrimination and that while working for him, she was regularly forced to climb out of the laundry room window to go to the bathroom. That's because the billionaire's orders were not to be allowed to enter his home, except when on cleaning duty.
According to Mercedes Wedaa, who has been working for Bezos for 3 years, she stated that this lasted for 18 months and that the staff was not treated equally, as discrimination was made based on origin.
She claims that Bezos' house manager "became aggressive and abusive" toward her, while being "respectful and polite" to the white security guards.
The former domestic workers of the founder of Amazon, accuse Jeff Bezos that the employees were forced to work long shifts, sometimes 14 hours without a break, and that there was no "access to the toilet for the sanitary".
The details laid out in Wedaa's lawsuit were actually pretty shocking.
"For almost 18 months, to go to the toilet, I and other housekeepers had to climb out of the laundry room through the window, and then walk through the mechanical room to get down to the toilet one floor below, which was used as men and women of all staff."
In the filed lawsuit, it was stated that as a result of this absurd protocol, the employees suffered infections in the urinary tract, since they had to not go to the toilet for long hours.
A lawyer for Bezos denied all the claims and said her allegations of being discriminated against on the basis of race were "absurd".
Wedaa is suing Bezos personally, along with two companies — Zefram and Northwestern — that manage his interests and properties.
