For a month, health experts have warned that just one infected person is enough to create an outbreak.
Evidence of such coronavirus outbreaks has already been seen on many occasions such as funerals, weddings, and even small meetings between friends.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said that "super-diffuse drives," as they are often called, "are associated with a large increase in the onset of an outbreak and a steady transmission in the later stages."
Now, as the holidays are expected to come, health experts are concerned that rallies, and if not large in size, could result in massive outbreaks.
"One of our concerns is that people during the holiday season will come together and bring the infection with them to those gatherings, no matter how small, without being aware of what they are doing," he said. Henry Walker, Covid-19 incident manager for CDC, at a conference.
CNN tells the case of a wedding in Milinocket, Maine, which led to a no less dangerous explosion.
The wedding, which took place in August, had at least 55 people in attendance. Visitors were seated close to each other, were not required to wear masks, and social distancing was not respected.
The 30 people who attended the wedding later tested positive for Covid-19.
"This led to three separate outbreaks of Covid-19, leaving 178 people infected, three hospitalized and seven dead," said state health investigators.
None of those who became seriously ill or lost their lives went to the wedding, and many of them lived far away from the event.
"This report is an important warning to people who were thinking of holding some kind of rally, even if not very large."
Experts advise people to pay attention to the way they behave during meetings this holiday season. Hand washing, social distancing, and wearing masks can save lives.
