A morning ritual that is apparently common in Australia has been officially declared "disgusting," at least according to the internet.
An American influencer, Brett Chody, who has over 200,000 followers on TikTok, has shared a discovery that left her "really shocked."

In her video, the 25-year-old referred to a survey published by the podcast We Met At Acme, which asked followers: "What do you do with your pajamas after you put them on?"
The options were: wash them, put them back in the drawer, put them under the pillow, or "other."
According to Brett, the "under the pillow" option was winning by a wide margin. And that left him speechless.
“I have never in my life heard of anyone putting their pajamas under their pillow after they put them on,” she said in the video. “Can someone explain to me why? I feel like I’m going crazy! I have so many questions.”

The comments on the video that immediately went viral were filled with people saying that yes, this is something completely normal, especially in Australia.
“I thought it was just an Australian custom,” one wrote. “I’m Australian. Pyjamas always under the pillow,” added another.
Others were surprised that some didn't do this:
“I didn't know there were people who didn't put them under their pillow. Where else are you going to put them?” asked one user. “Why would you put used pajamas back in the closet?” said another.

But there were also those who agreed with Brett, calling the habit not only strange but also unhygienic.
“I feel like I'm being manipulated. There's no way this is real,” one follower commented. “Why don't we just call them out on it?” someone else asked.

So is this daily habit unhygienic?
Australian cleaning expert Chantel Mila said there's nothing wrong with putting pajamas under your pillow, and it can even be a handy trick for busy families.
"I've heard a lot of people do it and honestly, it's a practical way to save time at night, especially with kids," Mila said.
However, she added that this is not for everyone:
“If you sweat a lot while sleeping, it’s probably best to wash them after every wear. In general, washing every two or three wears is a good balance to keep them fresh and hygienic.”
