If you're getting ready for a flight and makeup is an integral part of your routine, it might be time to rethink it. According to experts, the environment inside the plane is not at all "friendly" to the skin, and the way you take care of it during the trip can make a big difference.
As dermatologist Dr. Angela Tewari explains to Condé Nast Traveler, the air in an airplane cabin is extremely dry. The result? A "tightening" sensation, dehydration, and a weakening of the skin's natural barrier.

In this environment, using makeup can make things worse. Some ingredients can irritate the skin or clog pores, especially when combined with the dry air and temperature changes during a flight. This can lead to increased sensitivity, but also to worsening acne.
According to the dermatologist, changes in pressure and temperature can make pores more open and more prone to clogging. If you're prone to acne, flying can make it worse, especially if you use heavily pigmented products.
What to do instead of makeup?

If you don't want to give up makeup completely, experts suggest some safer alternatives for your skin:
Use non-comedogenic products that don't clog pores.
Remove makeup with micellar water before or during the flight.
Apply a moisturizer rich in ceramides and fatty acids.
Use hydrating masks to protect the skin barrier
The main idea is simple: during a flight, skin needs hydration and protection more than coverage. A lighter, more focused skincare routine will help you arrive at your destination with healthier, fresher skin.
