Elon Musk is dealing, among other things, with a humanoid robot (similar to the human in appearance), which could be introduced next year.
"It will basically deal with work that is boring, repetitive and dangerous," Musk told the Tesla robot. "What is the job that people least want to do?" Elon did not mention if the robot would be sold and if so, for how much money. The robot will have a screen positioned where the human face is supposed to be and "useful information" will be displayed, according to Musk.
Human-like robots have long been attractive. But creating a human-like robot that can perform human tasks seems incredibly difficult. Artificial intelligence has improved rapidly, but lags far behind the general abilities of even a small child.
Musk described the robot as an extension of Tesla's work to build self-driving vehicles. The robot will use the same computer chip and will move with eight cameras.
He said the robot could do a variety of jobs, including shopping. Musk joked that his robot would be friendly.
The question is: Is Elon joking about plans to create robots? Well, you never know. From the presentation, it seems he did not take it very seriously.
