You don't have to spray endlessly for your scent to last. Perfume expert Isaac Lekach emphasizes that fragrance is like a personal accessory and to last, it requires special care from application to storage. Here's how to make your perfume smell all day long:
1. Hydrated skin retains fragrance longer
Perfumes "stick" better to moisturized skin, so apply unscented cream immediately after showering, when the skin is still slightly damp. Dry skin "swallows" the scent quickly.
2. Placing on pulse points does not prolong the scent
Although applying behind the ears or on the wrist helps diffuse the scent, these warm spots cause the perfume to evaporate more quickly. Experts suggest combining warm spots for diffusion with cooler areas (like the forearms or chest) for durability.
3. Understand the structure of perfume
Perfumes have three layers:
Top notes: are light, refreshing and disappear within 15 minutes.
Heart notes: last for several hours and constitute the identity of the fragrance.
Base notes: last longer on the skin.
The more middle and base notes a perfume has, the longer its scent lasts.
4. Avoid wasting fragrance in the air
The cloud-like spray may look luxurious, but is ineffective, most of which ends up on clothes or furniture, not on skin.
5. Check the percentage of oils
The higher the percentage of aromatic oil in the perfume, the longer it lasts. Price does not always indicate longevity, as rare ingredients also affect the price.
6. Store perfumes properly
Heat, humidity and light damage the scent. Keep it in a cool, dark place, like a drawer, cupboard or the back of a wardrobe. Avoid the bathroom and windows. Some people even keep it in the fridge (but not in the door!).
7. Use the "layering" technique
Use shower gel, cream, and perfume from the same line to build a stronger aromatic base. You can also experiment by combining different scents, starting with the heaviest, then layering the lighter one on top.
8. Synthetic vs. natural
Synthetic fragrances last longer because they are more stable to light and air. Natural ones have an authentic scent, but require greater care in storage to avoid degradation.
