Vesa Luma has decided to speak publicly for the first time about a difficult health and emotional period, which has been misinterpreted by the public for years. She has revealed that she has insulin resistance, a metabolic condition that can lead to prediabetes or type 2 diabetes if left untreated.
"About three years ago, I started feeling strange about my body," the singer writes, explaining that the problem was not related to appetite or classic weight gain.
According to Vesa, thanks to the Botox and filler trends, comments about her body took a different direction.
"The public no longer 'nails' you with 'why you've gained weight', but blames it on Botox. 'The Botox has swollen them up, it's made them look like they've been stung by a bee,'" she writes.
After a period of attributing everything to stress and anxiety, the singer decided to seek professional help. Hormonal tests revealed that she had very high insulin resistance, a condition that can lead to prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.
Insulin resistance means that the body doesn't use insulin properly, and as a result, blood sugar can be high. This explains the bloating, weight changes, and difficulty controlling appetite.
"That's why we decided to switch to what is now called 'trend': Ozempic. The decision to start Ozempic was not easy. I was very afraid of it because of the side effects: vomiting, dizziness," the singer confessed.
Vesa explained that for a long time she was hesitant to talk about this topic, for fear of affecting people who do not have a medical need for Ozempic.
Today, the singer says she is ready to start treatment again, this time with more awareness and responsibility.
In the end, Vesa also made it clear that this story is personal and not medical advice.
