The saga of the trials related to the episode of violence in the royal palace ended this Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
The Tirana Court has sentenced Prince Leka Zogu to 1 year in prison in connection with the incident recorded in March 2024.
Due to the summary trial, the sentence was reduced to 8 months, and he was ultimately sentenced to 16 months of probation for the charge of "Domestic Violence".
The court also sentenced Elias' father, Gjergj Zahariën, to 10 months in prison, which was reduced to 6 months and 20 days on summary judgment. Ultimately, the court set the sentence at 1 year and 40 days, suspended.
On the other hand, Elia Zaharia was not convicted, as according to the black squads he did not commit a criminal offense. The three people who were taken as defendants for "domestic violence" were tried using the summary trial procedure.
How the video of the violence at the royal palace was distributed
After investigations conducted by the Prosecution, it emerged that the video was distributed after Prince Leka sent it to his partner, Blerta Celibashi. She then went to a law firm to transfer the material to a USB. The competent authorities requested Leka and Blerta's phones, but they did not hand them over, while the law firm employee denied the accusations of distributing the video.
We recall that the former royal couple officially divorced and have now reached an agreement, which is a final decision. The benefits after the dissolution of the marriage have been divided as follows:
- Elia Zaharia and her daughter, Geraldina, will live in a 257 m2 apartment in Tirana, as long as Elia does not remarry.
- Elia benefits from some facilities from the building being built behind the former "Dajti" hotel
- Elia, for now, together with her daughter, will live in the royal palace
- Leka can meet the girl for 2 hours a day
- The payment for the daughter's daily needs will be 1000 euros per month. Leka will have access to every movement that will be made with her daughter's money
- Both parents will contribute to the upbringing, welfare, education, administration of property, and legal representation of their daughter.
